Yi Weng awarded SPIE $2,000 Travel Scholarship

Prof. Zhongqi Pan's graduate student Yi Weng has been awarded a 2015 Travel Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in the amount of $2000, for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field. Award-winning applicants were strictly evaluated, selected thru fierce competition and approved by the SPIE Scholarship Committee, chaired by Cristina Solano. His current researches mainly focus on fiber-optic sensors, adaptive optical imaging, MIMO DSP algorithms, and optical communication systems. He worked at NEC Labs America in Princeton, NJ during summer 2014 and summer 2015. Yi has published over 30 journal and conference papers related to photonic devices and their system applications, and holds 3 pending U.S. patents. He serves as a reviewer of Optics Express, Optics Letters, Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Photonics Journal, Optics Communications, etc. He also serves as the conference events officer in the executive committee of OSA technical group in fiber modeling and fabrication. Yi received his B.S. degree in optical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2009, and he graduated with M.S. degree from Louisiana State University in 2012. He has received the 2015 Richard and Mary Neiheisel Endowed Dissertation Award.
